ASCAP's Rhythm and Soul Team honors Atlanta female executives 'Behind the Music' | Arts & Culture
ATLANTA -- On Thursday, October 18, from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) along with sponsor Rémy Martin V, presented its 4th annual ASCAP Presents… Women Behind the Music at Vanquish Lounge located 1029 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.
The series, designed to encourage and honor top music industry females in the music community, honored B. Lawrence Watkins & Associates' Entertainment Attorney Bernie Lawrence-Watkins, GRAMMY Award winning songwriter and recording artist Crystal Nicole and GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter and singer Tameka "Tiny" Harris.
Moderated by V103 Radio Personality & HGTV Host Egypt Sherrod along with socialite/hostess Eboni Elektra (3BG) and turntablist DJ Traci Steele (Hot 107.9 FM), special guests Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall, wife Natalie Hall, and countless numbers of Atlanta's top music industry attorneys, label executives, DJs and music publishers poured into midtown Atlanta to show their support to these great women. Other special guests included seven-time GRAMMY winning Producer and Songwriter Bryan-Michael Cox, Cox's R&B singer-songwriter Mylah who performed live from her latest project (MylahMusic.com) with her female bandmates Teja, JLatoiya & Tracy, female rapper Rasheeda (Peach Candy/Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta), DJ Baby Yu (V103), Ric Ross (EMI/Capitol Music Group), Calvin Thorbourne III (Universal Music Group), Steve Julal (VAAS), Uwonda Carter (The Carter Law Firm), Donald Woodard (Gordon & Rees LLP), Leron E. Rogers (Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP), Lady Hannah, Kim Smith (K. Smiles5 Management & Consulting), Vince Phillips, Chaka Zulu (Manager, Ludacris), and Squeak (Manager, Drumma Boy).
Created by ASCAP Vice President of Membership, Rhythm & Soul Nicole George, the ASCAP 'WBTM' event series was designed to recognize the immense contributions that women make across all areas of the music business. "Each woman we have honored since our inaugural event three years ago is a legend in her own right, and I'm thrilled to continue this amazing series with another round of outstanding and deserving honorees," says George, who was wholeheartedly supporting the event from afar.
Honorees were presented with a special memento in recognition of their contributions to music after their participation in a moderated Q&A from Sherrod.
ASCAP Presents… Women Behind the Music also launched events in New York and Los Angeles and have previously honored ASCAP songwriters Janelle Monáe, Siedah Garrett, Monica, Kelly Rowland, Melanie Fiona, Sheila E., Kandi Burruss, Goapele and R&B girl group Electrik Red.
