Spice Market Announces “Artful Thursdays” and “Après Art” Packages

Spice Market, located inside the W Atlanta-Midtown, is rolling out two new promotions with the High Museum of Art in Midtown beginning the week of April 16 in order to encourage guests to support the arts and to offer a convenient and free parking option for museum-goers.

The restaurant’s Artful Thursdays will take place every Thursday evening beginning at 5 p.m. and includes the following:

·         Complimentary valet at the W Atlanta-Midtown (guests most present their High Museum ticket and their Spice Market receipt upon leaving to receive valet services free of charge)

·         Half-priced tickets to the High Museum of Art, which can be purchased at the Museum. The Museum is open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

City Councilman Kwanza Hall awarded the 2012 Rialto Pioneer Award

ATLANTA --  Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts awarded Councilman Kwanza Hall, representative of District 2, their 2012 Pioneer Award.  

The Rialto's Pioneer Award is given annually to distinguished leaders who have contributed significantly to the health and vitality of the city's arts and cultural communities and/or Georgia State's far-reaching mission as a great university in the heart of a major city. It was named to honor the "pioneering spirit" of the remarkable vision that led to the renovation of the Rialto by Georgia State in the early 1990s.  

The award was presented before the start of The Idan Raichel & Vieux Farka Touré Quartet - Two Cultures, One Voice:  Israel Meets Mali on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 8 PM. 

Kwanza's vision for the city and the visionary music created by the half Israeli-half Mali band, made for a great evening of entertainment at the Rialto.

NBAF announces Dr. Michael Simanga as new Executive Director

Atlanta -- NBAF is an Atlanta-based, non-profit arts and cultural organization founded in 1987. The mission of NBAF is to engage, cultivate and educate diverse audiences about the arts and culture of the African Diaspora and provide opportunities for artistic and creative expression.  NBAF (National Black Arts Festival) recently announced its selection of Dr. Michael Simanga as Executive Director of NBAF. As the new Executive Director, Dr. Simanga will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of NBAF’s operation. He will also guide the administrative, fiscal, programmatic and community relationships for the organization.

“After careful consideration, NBAF’s Board of Directors has selected Dr. Michael Simanga as Executive Director of NBAF,” said Evern Cooper Epps, NBAF Board Chair. “Michael is mindful of the changing times and conditions that arts organizations face, and will work to complete the transition and develop a new business model for NBAF.”
