Celebrate Black History Month | Author Rebecca Burns signs her new book 'Burial of a King' | News
Old Fourth Ward - (submitted by the Fourth Ward Alliance) In celebration of Black History Month, the Fourth Ward Alliance has arranged for a special presentation at our February monthly meeting. On Thursday, February 9th, Atlanta author and former Atlanta magazine editor Rebecca Burns will be offering a slide show and book signing for her new book, Burial for a King, chronicling the tumultuous days immediately following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in April of 1968.
King’s funeral occurred here in the Old Fourth Ward on April 9, 1968, with 150,000 mourners taking part in activities surrounding the largest funeral ever staged for a private citizen in the United States. You will recognize many of the places and people that Rebecca describes, and her perspectives are poignant and insightful.
The FWA meeting will start at 6:30 PM, with wine and socializing. Given the size of the crowd we’re expecting, our LOCATION this month will be DIFFERENT. We’ll be meeting in the training room of Keller Williams Real Estate at 621 North Ave, Suite C50 – that’s in the Southern Dairies complex (where 4th & Swift Restaurant is located). We’ll have a few other agenda items to cover, but Burial for a King will be our primary topic for the evening.
So, please mark your calendars NOW for 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 9th, and we’ll follow up with more details later.
Note that Rebecca’s book normally sells for $25, but she’ll be selling signed copies at our event for $15 – please bring cash or your checkbook!
