Aimee Copeland's stolen van recovered

ATLANTA -- Aimee Copeland's specialized van, which was stolen in Atlanta Saturday night, has been found.

The van was recovered Sunday evening, but a $6,000 titanium manual wheelchair Copeland kept inside is still missing.

Copeland lost her left leg, right foot and both hands to a flesh-eating bacteria in 2012. She used the silver 2012 Honda Odyssey to drive to her graduate classes at Valdosta State University and her internship at the Shepherd Center.

Andy Copeland, Aimee's father, said the van was taken while parked on Arnold Street in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.

"That van is basically Aimee's legs to let her get everywhere she needs to go," Andy Copeland said, adding that Aimee awoke extra early Monday to wheel herself five miles to the Shepherd Center.

Fulton County BOC approves funding to improve efficiency of the elections process

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- At the Aug. 5 board meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) approved the purchase of an election/asset management system and Poll Worker on-line training software system recommended by the county’s Department of Registration and Elections. Both systems will align the department to continue resolving issues that arose during the general election and general election runoff of 2008 as well as the primary and general elections of 2012.

“The approval to implement these two systems should improve our department’s ability to conduct elections more efficiently,” states Rick Barron, Director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections. “The 2016 Election Year is fast approaching and having these two systems in place will enable us to be better prepared for the expected increase in turn-out due to it being a Presidential Election year.”
