Atlanta - On January 22nd, the 2nd annual BlackBride.com bridal showcase will return to downtown Atlanta and the Marriott Marquis.


Mary Chatman is the President and CEO of the organization and being a resident of Suwanee, we at 11Alive's Where U Live wanted to sit down and hear her story.


Mary initially worked for BlackBride.com as a writer, but decided to make a power move once the previous owner put the site up for acquisition.  Mary, who has an extensive business background, jumped at the opportunity to acquire the company and over the past 2 years she has led the company through a complete makeover.

Grady names new VP of government relations

ATLANTA -- Matthew Hicks will join Grady Health System as its new vice president of government relations, the hospital announced Wednesday.

In his new role, Hicks will manage relationships between Grady and its government partners. He brings more than a decade of relevant experience to the job.

Hicks began his career working on social services and healthcare matters for U.S. Senator Zell Miller. He is also a certified emergency medical technician.

A DeKalb County native, Hicks earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Emory University.

Interfaith program to engage Atlanta clergy, Saudi visitors

ATLANTA -- Several Atlanta religious leaders will engage in an Interfaith Dialogue session with visiting delegates from Saudi Arabia Thursday.

The 10 participants will use the opportunity to share their experiences from the worlds of faith and commerce, focusing on how they have seen fear, stereotypes and suspicions dissipate when people come to a mutual understanding. At the end of the event, the panel will reveal a five-point plan designed to help people become "doers" through interfaith projects.

The event will be moderated by Nick Stuart, a former journalist who has covered the Middle East and produced a number of award-winning documentaries about interfaith relations.

Deal appoints new Ga. EPD director

ATLANTA -- Jud Turner has been appointed director of the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR board made the appointment official this week after Gov. Nathan Deal nominated Turner for the post.

Turner replaces F. Allen Barnes, who is leaving to work in the private sector.

Turner is a founding partner in the law firm Turner, Bachman & Garrett LLC and public affairs firm Georgia360 LLC. He was former Gov. Sonny Perdue's lead attorney and represented the governor during negotiations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service during the state's severe drought.

Turner has also served as general counsel to the Georgia Department of Education.

Grady Hospital welcomes new marketing chief

ATLANTA -- Grady Health System announced Tuesday that Lindsay Caulfield will join its executive team as the new senior vice president of planning and marketing.

Caulfield comes to Grady from Cohn & Wolfe, a global public relations agency, where she served as executive vice president. She received her bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and a Master of Science in health communication from Tufts University School of Medicine.

Caulfield will begin working for Grady on Jan. 3.
